The client came to our team looking to develop further The Healing Chi's in-person and digital services and resources. The stakeholder's goal was to:

-Create a UX strategy for their non-profit organization to transform The Healing Chi into an essential platform for BIPOC men looking to improve their mental health and wellness.

-Create a website that would act as an organization's employee by facilitating operational needs such as recruiting volunteers and providing support for their users.

Problem
In BIPOC communities, mental health can be seen as a less-important footnote to an individual's overall health. As a result, BIPOC men have been walking around for years struggling with unaddressed depression, anxiety, and PTSD, caused by long-term stress and trauma. Aside from BIPOC men not prioritizing their mental health, they also face societal, cultural, and economic barriers to accessing mental health support. The goal of the project was to create an online platform that would act as a safe space and create a resource for BIPOC men to take control of their mental health.

Research
To address the challenge at hand, we conducted a thorough investigation utilizing user interviews, surveys, and current literature to inform our design decisions. During this process, we identified several key themes that repeatedly emerged:

1.The Need for Genuine Companionship and a Safe Space for Vulnerability: Our research revealed a strong desire among users for a platform where they could connect with others in an authentic way, free from the stigma that often surrounds mental health issues. Users expressed a desire for a supportive community where they could be themselves and share their experiences without fear of judgment

2.Mental Healthcare Inaccessibility due to Cultural, Financial, and Language Barriers: We also found that access to mental healthcare services was a significant issue for many users, particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds. Users cited financial constraints and language barriers as significant obstacles to receiving proper care.

3.General Lack of Understanding Regarding Mental Health: Finally, our research showed that many users lacked a basic understanding of mental health and how to care for it. Users expressed a desire for resources and guidance to help them better understand their mental health needs and how to address them effectively.

Based on these findings, we developed a comprehensive design strategy that prioritizes the creation of a safe, supportive community for users, as well as resources to help users overcome cultural, financial, and language barriers to mental healthcare. Additionally, we implemented educational resources to promote mental health literacy and help users better understand their mental health needs in the privacy of their own home. Our approach is designed to address the unique challenges faced by users and provide a comprehensive solution that promotes mental wellness and improves access to care.
