WELCOME TO THE END?
How to Survive Economic Collapse is a political survival guide and community resource published through Shadowbanned Press. Part practical manual, part radical handbook, and part call to collective action, the zine explores how people can navigate economic instability and systemic crisis by building systems of care, resilience, and solidarity outside of traditional institutions.
Designed as a response to the uncertainty of the present moment, the publication highlights grassroots strategies already being used to create alternative forms of survival, including squatting and collective housing, tenant defense funds, mutual aid healthcare, debt resistance, alternative childcare, and community infrastructure. Rather than waiting for existing systems to provide solutions, the zine focuses on the power of collective action and the ways communities can support one another through periods of instability.
The design uses humor and visual play to approach anxiety-producing topics that are often overwhelming, such as credit card debt, financial insecurity, and economic collapse. Whimsical illustrations and playful graphics create moments of levity while making complex and intimidating subjects more approachable. The entire publication is printed in green as a visual reference to money and financial systems, while the oversized green coil binding reinforces the zine’s playful, unconventional character. Drawing from underground DIY publishing traditions, the zine incorporates a risograph-inspired aesthetic that celebrates the imperfections, experimentation, and accessibility of independent print culture.
Through its combination of political education, humor, and experimental design, How to Survive Economic Collapse transforms fear into preparation and isolation into collective imagination. The zine serves as both a practical guide for navigating uncertainty and a reminder that building alternatives begins with the communities we create together.

For the promotional materials, we intentionally used a stock photo model to evoke the image of a generic corporate worker—a replaceable cog in the machine. The anonymity and interchangeability of stock photography reinforces the idea that this figure could be swapped out for anyone, reflecting the dehumanizing nature of corporate culture and the capitalist system that is causing said collapse.
Additionally, using a stock photo model references internet meme culture, where generic stock images are frequently remixed, edited, and repurposed for satire. This visual language aligns closely with Shadowbanned's brand identity, which draws heavily from online humor and meme aesthetics to communicate political ideas in an accessible and engaging way.
